Description: | Tulsa Truck Manufacturing built this truck in 1973. It was shipped to the buyer as a Custom All Wheel Drive Vehicle Unit 348 6x6. Tulsa equipment built these trucks using the existing C-65 Cab and frame, then modified the truck by removing the two speed rear axle and front 2X4 axle. They installed an F173 transfer-case rated at 2.5 tons, front and rear GMC 2.5 ton axles and ram power assist steer.
Since then it was modified to its current 4x4 state by removing one of the rear axles, shortening the frame and adding the truck bed off an 80s Chevy Dually. All I can say is this truck is absolutely MASSIVE. 8ft tall 8ft wide and 17ft long. Take a loot at the comparison picture next to my Ford F-250. Makes it look like a toy. It takes quite a jump to get in the cab and you literally fall out of it getting down. Everywhere you go you stop traffic. Its one of a kind as Tulsa only built a hand full of them and this may very well be the last one standing. I searched for hours and couldnt find another truck like it.
The engine is the original 366 Tall-deck with a new Eldebrock Carburetor and distributor. 73 model 366 has 200 hp at 4000 rpm and 310 ft lb of torque at 2800 rpm. It runs very strong and its loud due to the glass packs but could use new seals, it seeps a little. This truck can be re powered to run any engine just about, Chevy, GMC big or small block.
Transmission is a Clarke 285v 5speed. It operates just fine but the 1:1 final drive ratio leaves something to be desired. I have a Spicer 3053A which can swap in that would provide overdrive of .85 and it is included in the sale. That would put you at 2500 RPMs at 70mph.
The transfer case is a 6x6 case out of an M211. Its a single speed reduction type. There is an issue with the front axle. I have sourced an M211 3rd member replacement that would resolve the issue. You can purchase these at just about any surplus military depot for $100.00. With the front drive shaft removed and milled drive flanges you can drive the truck but not in 4wd.
The axles are M211 2.5 ton GMCs You can purchase lockers for these and there is a disc brake conversion using B700 F-550 hardware. They are nearly indestructible and will turn 53 16R20s with ease as the ratio is 6.17.
There is power steering pushing a massive hydro and you can turn the wheel with your pinky. Currently its stopped by the M211 drums which are more than enough powered by the brake booster from the C-65.
The wheels are custom 20s that turn 16R20 military Goodyear tires which are starting to show some dry rot. They sit 44in end to end, if you wish you can run the Michelin 16r20s that sit 53in wide, they will swap right on.
The cab of the truck is in good shape, but there are two small dents on the outside top of the cab and the floor pans have been replaced. Its almost impossible to notice unless you stand in the bed of the truck and overlook the cab or are crouched unfed the truck. The hood has been converted to a front swing open. It provides excellent access to the engine and all components. The bed is a Chevy dually bed.
Fuel is provided by a cell located in the bed of the truck. I would install one of those 50 gallon bed mounted chrome tanks and replace the bed mounts with 6in urethane body lift blocks.
Also included are some extra 22.5 in wheels with 9X20in tires mounted.
The truck is sold as-is where-is. Please feel free to ask any questions. I can be contacted at 941-320-4864.
